Norwegian People's Aid welcome you to the online launch of the Nuclear Weapons Ban Monitor 2020.

We are proud to present this definite overview of the progress made in 2020 towards a world without nuclear weapons and our analysis of the key challenges.

As the de facto monitoring regime for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), the Nuclear Weapons Ban Monitor records developments related to the universalisation of this Treaty.

It also sets out clear interpretations of each of the prohibitions and positive obligations of the TPNW, and assesses the extent to which all the world’s states – regardless of whether they have consented to be bound by the Treaty– act in accordance with them or not. It also tracks the status of all states in relation to other relevant treaties and regimes dealing with weapons of mass destruction.

As we move closer to January 22nd, when the TPNW enters into force as binding international law, which states currently have policies and practices that are compatible with the Treaty, and which do not?

We are excited for our panel of experts to shed light on this and other findings from the report:

SPEAKERS:
