Please join us this Saturday to Celebrate the Ratification of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

Seacoast Peace Response and New Hampshire Peace Action will be celebrating the first anniversary this Saturday of the ratification of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which makes nuclear weapons illegal. The treaty bans the development, testing, production, manufacture, acquisition, possession or stockpiling, transfer, control or receipt, use or threat to use, stationing or deployment of nuclear weapons.

The United States has not signed the treaty and is planning to spend up to $2 trillion (www.armscontrol.org) to “modernize” our nuclear arsenal. Sandra Yarne, a member of SPR and NHPA says, “In addition to celebrating this groundbreaking law, we are asking President Biden and our Congressional Delegation, Senators Shaheen and Hassan and Representatives Pappas and Kuster to oppose the replacing of our nuclear arsenal and come into alignment with international law.”

All are encouraged to join the vigil this Saturday at Noon in Portsmouth's Market Square, in celebration of the momentous treaty that helps move the world closer to abolishing the threat of nuclear war. Even a limited nuclear attack endangers all living things throughout the world regardless of whether they are the target, the aggressor or the bystander.
