Portraits of the Hibakusha - 80 Years Remembered November 27, 2023 at 9:00am - Central Time (US & Canada) Near Vienna Cafe, Floor 1B UN Headquarters 405 E 45th St New York City, NY 10017 United States Contact person: Gina Langton

Showing for the duration of 2MSP will be a selection of ten 3D lenticular portraits of the hibakusha (the  “atomic bomb-affected people”) who survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.  Chosen out of a larger collection of 52 portraits taken by renowned photographer Patrick Boyd earlier this year they include portraits of Nobel Laureate Setsuko Thurlow and Dr Masao Tomonaga.

There are plans to exhibit the collection in public museums around the world to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the bombing in 2025, with a launch in Tokyo in March 2024.

Our expectation is that the exhibition will also be of particular interest to local councils and arts centers in cities where mayors are part of the Mayors for Peace network, the ICAN Cities Appeal network, and where there is an interest in peace disarmament education and positive peace.
