Join ICAN and Peace Boat for a bilingual (English and Spanish) Instagram live on August 9, the day the atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki in 1945.

 

Peaceboat’s Rika Watanabe (English) and Masumi Matsumura (Spanish) will be your guides at Nagasaki City Shiroyama Elementary School, located less than 500 meters away from the hypocenter with its own unique perspective to share.

Peace Boat will capture the atmosphere of the day from Nagasaki and show you an atomic-bomb surviving school, less known but with its own unique perspective to share. While wishing for a world without nuclear weapons, please join us for the minute of silence at Shiroyama Elementary School, the elementary school closest to the hypocenter.

Your Guides: Rika Watanabe and Masumi Matsumura

 

Rika Watanabe (English) 

As an International Coordinator of Peace Boat, Rika has been coordinating the Global Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World: Peace Boat Hibakusha Project since 2008, travelling with Hibakusha (Atomic bomb survivors) to convey their experiences and stories to show the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons. Being from Japan, Rika believes her mission, as is Peace Boat's, is to call for nuclear abolition. Rika is the main coordinator of “Every Second Counts for the Survivors,” a project to create opportunities for people around the world to listen to first-hand accounts of Hibakusha. She is also program coordinator for the Hiroshima-ICAN Academy on Nuclear Weapons and Security since 2019 

 

  

Masumi Matsumura (Espanol)

Nació en 1976. Miembro de El Barco de la Paz desde 2004. Ha participado y coordinados diversas actividades en América Latina. Participa en la Campaña Internacional para abolir las Armas Nucleares (ICAN) y organiza foro de testimonio de sobrevivientes de Hiroshima y Nagasaki en cada parte del mundo.
