Nuclear Weapons and Climate: The Links December 01, 2023 at 1:15pm - 2:30pm Eastern Time (US & Canada) Conference Room B UN Headquarters 405 E 45th St New York, NY 10017 United States Contact person: Timmon Wallis
Timmon Wallis will be presenting findings from his new book, Warheads to Windmills: Preventing Climate Catastrophe and Nuclear War. His focus is on how a comparatively small number of states, coupled with a global mass movement, can move countries like the United States to embrace the need to phase out both nuclear weapons and fossil fuels.
There will also be a follow-up discussion to the live link-up between 2MSP and COP28 which will have taken place the previous day. The focus here is on the connections between international efforts to address climate change and those already in place to address nuclear weapons. How can States Parties to the TPNW help formulate and bring into being a similar treaty process to phase out the burning of fossil fuels?
