Projects & Internships

Policy and Research Intern (75%). Deadline 4 April 2022.

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) HQ in Geneva is looking for a summer policy and research intern to join our team at 75% (30 hours per week) to support our work leading up to and at the first meeting of states parties of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

The policy and research intern will assist the Policy and Research Coordinator and the team in preparations for the first meeting of states parties to the TPNW, including by conducting and summarising research about the TPNW for briefing materials and other resources for campaigners, diplomats and the media and assisting with event preparations. The intern may also assist with tracking and writing about developments in general nuclear weapons policy, including preparations for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in August, writing editorials and contributing to the policy and research newsletter.

This role provides a unique opportunity for a self-starter to gain expertise and experience on nuclear weapons policy and international law and hone research and writing skills while contributing to the full implementation of a ground-breaking international treaty and learning about the inner workings of a small, successful NGO. The internship period is three months, with a start date in early-mid May. Interns that can work in the Geneva office are strongly preferred. Applicants of colour, indigineous applicants, applicants that identify as LGBQTI+SB, applicants who identify as women or non-binary, applicants with disabilites and applicants from communities harmed by nuclear weapons are particularly encouraged to apply.
