Letter to bring a bank

This is a template that you can adjust, print and bring to your local bank. Find out if they are currently profiting from the production of nuclear weapons by checking this list.

I am writing to you as a concerned customer of your bank, and a concerned citizen.

The continued existence of more than 12,000 nuclear weapons is an affront to humanity and undermines every nation’s security. Any use of these ultimate weapons of mass destruction would have catastrophic, long-term humanitarian and environmental consequences.

Some countries continue to cling to these weapons of mass destruction, but the majority know that multilateral nuclear disarmament is the only guarantee to prevent a nuclear nightmare from unfolding.

The risk of nuclear weapons use is higher than ever before. Several ongoing conflicts involve nuclear armed countries, causing a humanitarian crisis for civilians on the ground in each of these locations.

Fortunately, there is a new global alliance pushing back against these nuclear risks using the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.  This alliance includes nuclear weapons use and testing survivors, governments, scientists, parliamentarians, youth and financial institutions like yours.

Together, they have agreed on a plan of action to move us closer to the end of nuclear weapons. By using the Treaty, these stakeholders are doing what is necessary to consign nuclear weapons to the dustbin of history. That includes ending any form of support for the weapons- or those who produce them.

The support of this bank and other financial institutions will be crucial to the success of worldwide efforts to abolish nuclear weapons. I want my savings and my investments to help secure my future and that of my family, not undermine it.

For that reason, I would like to know

  • Are you aware that this bank currently has financial relationships with one or more companies producing nuclear weapons?
  • Does this bank invest in any company associated with the production of nuclear weapons?
  • Is there a policy to that effect, and if so, where can I find it?

I want to make sure that my money is not connected to nuclear weapons, and with nuclear weapon threats on the rise, now is the time for us all to do our part to reduce these risks.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Yours sincerely,

Concerned Customer
