ICAN was initiated by the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), in particular by its Australian affiliate the Medical Association for Prevention of War (MAPW).

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) UK: The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament launched the ICAN campaign with Medact in Britain and is working to promote and call for a Nuclear Weapons Convention.

Mayors for Peace: Mayor Akiba of Hiroshima and leader of Mayors for Peace participated in the international launch of ICAN, and is working with IPPNW to plan joint collaborative efforts between mayors and doctors.

Abolition 2000: The 2007 Abolition 2000 Annual General Meeting welcomed and endorsed ICAN and encouraged international, national campaigns and groups to get ICAN going in their own countries.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom: WILPF has worked with ICAN from the beginning and provides vital information for the ICAN nuclear map through its Reaching Critical Will project.

The Nobel Women's Initiative supports the efforts of ICAN and all nuclear non-proliferation activists around the globe. more info

Mouvement de la Paix 's National Council decided to support ICAN and to initiate 13 meetings in France's 13 biggest cities inviting ICAN speakers to participate.
