Latvia

Latvia is a signatory of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has signed and ratified the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Latvia has one 5 MW research reactor. Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania produced a joint feasibility study in October 2006 that called for the construction of at least one new nuclear reactor of between 800 and 1,600 MW in Lithuania to replace Ignalina-2, which is scheduled to be closed in 2009. In March 2007, Poland agreed to participate in the project, which is estimated to cost $3 - 5 billion USD.
