Letter from the Cabinet Director of Spain

(Unofficial translation)

9 October 2012

Dear Mr Jiang,

I would like to thank you for your kind letter of 6 August informing us about your initiative for the reduction of nuclear arms, which is inspired by the Secretary-General of the United Nations. We are aware of your special sensibility and that of the inhabitants of your city, especially on a date such as 6 August, towards the existence of the nuclear arsenals mentioned in your letter.

Spain, together with the greatest part of the international community, shares the concern about the threat of the use of such arms. Therefore, as a country that has signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and as a relevant member in the field of international security, we have taken active part in the two summits on nuclear security, leading the global initiative to fight nuclear terrorism, as well as taking part in other forums.

On behalf of the president as well as in my own name, I would like to send you our support and highest consideration for your project, and express my hope that the events described in your letter and which your city suffered never happen again. Finally, I would like to thank you for your present and particularly for the prayers for peace that it contains.

Yours Sincerely,

Jorge Moragas

Cabinet Director of Spain
