4. Nuclear Weapons


There are currently 26,000 nuclear weapons in the hands of 9 countries:

USA – 10,000
Russia – 15,000
UK - 200
France - 350
China -130
India – 120-200
Pakistan – 30-92
Israel – 75 - 200
North Korea – 1-10

There is enough plutonium and highly enriched uranium in existence to create many thousands of nuclear weapons.

Global spent fuel stocks amounted to 220,000 tonnes in the year 2000, and the stockpile is growing by approximately 10,000 tonnes each year.
