Call on world leaders to abolish nuclear weapons

Why it’s time to ban the bomb
There are more than 23,300 nuclear weapons in the world today, and each is capable of destroying entire cities. In May 2010 world leaders will gather in New York for an important meeting to discuss this threat. The meeting is known as the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, or “NPT RevCon” for short. ICAN believes it’s time for countries to begin work on a new agreement banning nuclear weapons within a specified time frame. But will the conference provide the outcome the world’s people are hoping for? That’s up to you!
Learning about nuclear weapons
We need your help to convince our leaders that it’s time to get serious about abolishing nuclear arsenals. The first thing you’ll need to do is find out about nuclear threat, and how we can achieve abolition.
How you can make a difference
Now that you know about the nuclear threat, why not let world leaders know that you support ICAN’s call for a nuclear-weapon-free future? We’re asking young people around the world to create banners like the one in the picture above declaring that it’s “Time to Abolish Nuclear Weapons”. You can download the letters below. Then print them off and allocate a letter to each student in the class to colour in and decorate with peace and anti-nuclear images. All that’s left to do is take a photo of the class and send it to us!
- Download letters (A4) (normal)
- Download letters (A3) (large)
- Download letters (Letter) (North America)
Sending us your photos
If you send us your photos by May 1, 2010, we’ll ensure world leaders at the NPT RevCon see them. We prefer high-resolution photos with plenty of light and in crisp focus. Feel free to send us several. Make sure you tell us the name of your school or youth group, and where in the world it’s located. Your photos will also be published on this page.
- Send photos to: info@icanw.org
- Deadline: May 1, 2010
