Letter from Prime Minister of Luxembourg

Dear Hiroshima Youth Committee,

“The release of atomic power has changed everything except our way of thinking.” Albert Einstein said this after Hiroshima. And he added: “The solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker.”

Becoming a watchmaker is no longer a solution. The idea is out. The bomb is out. Nobody knows this better than you, the citizens and the youth of Hiroshima. Therefore indeed: We have to solve the problem in our hearts. Politically speaking: We have to solve the nuclear problem and the war problem in general with our values. And with a new way of thinking: globalization as cooperation, humanity as dialogue and mankind as brotherhood.

Yours very truly,

Jean-Claude Juncker
