This year will be the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Events to commemarate the day will take place all over the world. Below is a preliminary list - we will add more events as they come to our attention.

MAPW, ICAN and PARTNERS: Remembering Hiroshima: Morning Vigil
This year will be the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is also the 25th anniversary of the South Pacific Nuclear Weapons Free Zone treaty, which the US has just said they will join. There will be a Vigil sponsored by MAPW, Pax Christi and the Quakers to commemorate and reflect.

Melbourne University Silent Vigil
A silent vigil held on the ‘concrete lawn’, east of Union House. We hold placards remembering Hiroshima Nagasaki and all victims of nuclear weapons, calling for an end to the weapons.

JAPANESE FOR PEACE: Hiroshima & Nagasaki Memorial Concert
Sixty-five years after the devastation of HIroshima and Nagasaki by nuclear blast, 'Japanese for Peace' will bring together a diverse range of musicians, speakers and citizens in a concert to celebrate peace. Performers include singer/songwriters Liz Frencham and Anne Norman with Shakuhachi and Wadaiko Rindo on the Japanese drums. Dave Sweeney from the Australian Conservation Foundation will also be guest speaking. Concert proceeds will the donated to a charity organisation.

The Queanbeyan and District People for Peace will hold their annual commemoration of the bombing of Hiroshima with Anne Pratt, Queanbeyan's Citizen of the Year.

Trieste to Aviano : Bike Ride for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament
200km bike ride through Italy & Slovenia which begins in Trieste, including a Hiroshima memorial action at Risiera di San Sabba Museum (peace museum on site of former Nazi concentration camp) and ending at the Aviano USAF base which continues to house nuclear weapons.

Lantern Ceremony
For the 35th consecutive year, people in Christchurch will hold a lantern ceremony on the Avon River in remembrance of those who died and the Hibakusha (survivors) of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
A variety of musicians will perform, including a Japanese choir, and Natasha Barnes will speak about the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty meeting she attended at the United Nations as part of the Government delegation.
We walk down to the river to float the lanterns.
