Australian nurses join calls for nuclear disarmament

Announcement: April 9, 2010

The Australian Nursing Federation has joined calls for nuclear disarmament, stating: "As frontline health workers, nurses understand that no medical or nursing response is possible in the event of a nuclear explosion."

"Everything is obliterated. Every dollar spent on nuclear weapons is a dollar that isn’t available to prevent disease and starvation which results in the deaths of millions of people around the world each year ... Nurses want nuclear weapons abolished now."

The ANF have asked members to call on the Australian Foreign Minister to support a Nuclear Weapons Convention as he prepares to represent Australia at this years nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). See the petition here or visit the ANF website here.
