Australia - say no to nuclear deals

Australia has some big decisions to make.

The Government is deciding whether to ratify, amend or reject former Prime Minister John Howard's last minute deal to sell uranium to Russia. Read more about why Australia should reject this treaty.

E-mail the Joint Standing Committee about Russia.

Send a copy of your e-mail to info@icanw.org

E-mail the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties about Russia, saying:

  1. Russia has not honoured their disarmament obligations under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
  2. The existing safeguards system is inadequate to know whether our uranium will be used for Russia's civil or military nuclear program, and does not guarantee inspections anyway
  3. Nuclear safety in Russia is poor
  4. The treaty does not rule out nuclear fuel reprocessing
  5. Nuclear power is not a solution to climate change, and the proposed deal will have only small effects on greenhouse gas emissions.

(there are other members, however these are ones with e-mail addresses on the Parliamentary website):
