As ICAN continues political lobbying globally for a Nuclear Weapons Convention (NWC), existing networks and organisations have embraced ICAN as a new vehicle to generate global support for a NWC. (See our Partners page)
At the 2007 UN General Assembly 127 nations voted in favour of a resolution calling for the immediate commencement of negotiations leading to a NWC. The revised NWC was accepted as a UN document
His Holiness The Dalai Lama officially endorsed ICAN internationally
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was the first acting PM to visit Hiroshima and declared his intention to move towards the abolition of nuclear weapons via an International Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Commission
